I have some EC2s running on AWS. All of them are on-demand instances.
Suppose the cost of the EC2s is $10/hour in the daytime. In the nighttime, I stop some of the EC2s for 10 hours. The cost of those EC2s is $8/hour during that time period.
In order to reduce the cost, I'm going to purchase compute savings plan with no upfront for 1 year. According to AWS Pricing Calculator, the price discount of the savings plan is about 22% off.
If I fill in $7.8 for the hourly commitment, will I be overcharged at nighttime?
Because $7.8 is larger than $6.24, which is equal to $8 * 0.78.
How much should I fill in the hourly commitment field to save the most money?
Note: I do not have permission to view recommendations of savings plans.
